'Soom' means 'triangle' in the Lepcha language, and is the symbol of the Hindu goddess of wealth. The Soom tea garden in Darjeeling was founded over 120 years ago. Only pure Chinese plants and hybrids grow at these altitudes. This tea, a highly aromatic first flush Darjeeling, is famous for its amber-coloured cup and nutty, sweet flavour.
The distinctive flavour of Darjeeling arises from an unusual combination of high mountains, steep terrain, well drained soil and misty swirling clouds. Add the extreme cold in the winter and intense heat in the summer and the end result is the exquisite muscatel character and flowery aroma of good Darjeeling.
